What if there was a “negative star” system, like a down vote or thumbs down on a comment? A star outlined in red. In addition to the “positive stars” outlined in gray. It would distinguish the comments that no one likes from the comments that no one pays attention to, if the replies don’t do that already.

I think it could lead to some abuse and bandwagoning like you see on other sites with an up/down system. I think it could be useful to deal with spam, obvious trolls, etc...

But thats what the “Flag” button is for innit?

Probably.

No. Just no. It’ll make everyone vulnerable.
Websites that have similar systems fall victim to idiots or trolls going around down voting everything because they disagree with whatever was said or have some personal grudge.
IMO, the only real flawed part of Kinja (apart from the service quality) is being in the grey.

I’d rather they just fix the star system they have. *kinja mobile* *cough*

I want to star this but can't. KINJA.

Can we just fix kinja mobile first?

1/2 star so I recognize the truth of your statement. 1/2 star to rub in the superiority of PC Kinja users!

PC MASTER RACE! muahahahahaha

The absolutist Like-dislike system in general is everything that is wrong with the internet.
Anyone who didn’t lean left on gawker/kinja would be destroyed.

We already get destroyed enough

Nah. You can already tell when there’s a negative comment (no stars, lots of replies).

You’re kidding right? A bunch of Gawker snowflakes would write articles moaning about how it allows bullying, blames victims, and “engenders” things. For a generation that’s never had any real problems, we’re sure good at inventing imaginary ones.

Why on earth do you want to recreate *ahem* other famous Internet sites ?
I mean it’s not like we don’t know what type of shenanigans go on there.

I think it would really empower the trolls. If you don’t like it now, you need to comment and explain why.
Part of the beauty of Oppo is that we are generally quite accepting of others.
